Quick answer

Tap Share on the Reel and look for Download. If it is not there, copy the Reel's link, paste it into a browser downloader, and save the MP4. Both take under a minute, and neither needs an app.

Key takeaways
  • Public Reels only. Private accounts cannot be downloaded by anyone.
  • Instagram's own Download option often adds a watermark; a browser tool saves the file without one.
  • On iPhone the file lands in Files first, then you move it to Photos.

Method 1: Use Instagram's own Download option#

Many public Reels already have a Download button, so you may not need anything else.

  1. Open the Reel and tap the Share (paper plane) icon.
  2. Tap Download if it is in the list.
  3. Look for the video in your Photos or Gallery.
Good to know

Reels saved this way often carry an Instagram watermark with the creator's username. Creators can switch the option off, and private accounts never show it.

No Download button, or you want the file without a watermark? Use a downloader in your browser. There is nothing to install and you never sign in.

  1. Tap Share, then Copy link.
  2. Open the Instagram Reels downloader and paste the link.
  3. Choose a size and tap Download.

You get an MP4, up to 1080 × 1920, with the sound included.

Why can't I download this Reel?#

  • No Download button: the creator turned it off, or the account is private. That is their choice, so ask them to send you the file.
  • Link not accepted: you copied a profile or Story link, not the Reel's own link.
  • Private account: only public Reels can be saved.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download a Reel from a private account?

No. Instagram's Help Center says no one can download reels from a private account, and a browser tool cannot either. Only public Reels can be saved.

Does Instagram tell the creator when I download their Reel?

As far as we know, Instagram does not notify creators when a Reel is saved to a device. Our tool never touches your Instagram account, so nothing links the download to you.

Is it legal to download Instagram Reels?

Keeping a public Reel to watch offline is generally treated as personal use. Reposting it as your own or using it in an ad without permission can infringe copyright, and the rules differ by country. This is general information, not legal advice.

How do I download a Reel with the original sound?

Use a tool that keeps the audio. Our downloader saves the Reel with its sound, and you can also save only the audio as MP3 or M4A.

Why does my downloaded Reel have a watermark?

Instagram's built-in Download often adds its logo and the creator's username. A browser tool that saves the file Instagram serves, like ours, adds no watermark.

Is it safe to use a browser downloader?

It is safe when the site needs nothing but a link. Walk away from any tool that asks for your Instagram password, pushes an app, or opens pop-ups.

Can I download my own Reels?

Yes. Your own public Reels can be saved with Instagram's Download option, or by pasting their link into a browser tool.

Can I download Instagram Reels on a PC?

Yes. Open the Reel in any browser, copy the address bar, paste it into the downloader and the MP4 saves to your Downloads folder.

How do I download an Instagram Reel in HD?

Pick the top row in the size list. It is the sharpest copy Instagram holds, usually up to 1080 × 1920, and no tool can add detail the upload never had.

Can I download a Reel from a link a friend sent me?

Yes, as long as the Reel is public. Paste the link exactly as you received it.
